Barbara Perkins
Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, I received both an undergraduate (B.S.Ed.) and graduate (M.Ed.) degree from the University of Memphis. I taught English and French at a college-preparatory school in Memphis for 10 years before moving to Georgia. In the fall of 1987 my two children, Carrie and Brad, entered 5th and 2nd grades at Greater Atlanta Christian School, and Mr. Bill Burton, then Jr. High Principal, hired me for the position of 8th grade English teacher. This 2007-2008 school year will be my 20th year at GACS. What a blessing GACS has been to my family for two decades!
Since 1987, I have assumed several positions at GACS including high school yearbook sponsor, Director of School Publications and Public Information, and finally in 2004 I joined the high school English faculty as a full-time Junior English teacher. Teaching American Literature to juniors at GACS has become my favorite of all roles.
Outside of my work at GACS, I enjoy music, animals, sports of all types, gardening, and
home decoration and renovation with my husband Bob. We’re blessed in that we share all of these interests. Originally from Maine, Bob graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in chemical engineering. He continues his career in engineering in the Atlanta area.
I’ve been blessed with my husband Bob, my son Brad (27), my daughter Carrie (30), and two granddaughters, Haley and Gwen. I must also mention our three dogs, Addie (Toy Poodle), Yin-Yang (Shih-Tzu), and Greta Faith (Golden Retriever).
I look forward to another year at Greater Atlanta Christian School working with this upcoming junior class.
