My name is Suzie McCluggage . I spent the first 17 years of my life in New Orleans where I was born. I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Harding University in Arkansas where I met and married Ralph McCluggage during my senior year. Ralph and I have been married for 42 years and have 4 married children who have blessed us with 7 beautiful grandchildren.
Upon graduation Ralph and I moved to Enugu, Nigeria in West Africa to work in a Christian mission. We were forced to leave after 9 months when civil war broke out. Two years later we moved with three other families and our one-year-old daughter to Sacapulas, Guatemala, Central America where we lived and worked for nearly nine years doing Bible translation among the descendants of Mayan Indians. During the final two years of our stay in Sacapulas, I assisted a missionary doctor in weekly clinics and minor surgeries. Political upheaval in Guatemala prevented our return to the work there.
After completing certification, I began teaching in DeKalb County, beginning in an elementary school, but later moving to a middle school. I worked as a full time teacher in DeKalb County for nearly 21 years, teaching 3rd and 5th grades for a short time, but primarily teaching 7th grade. I received a Master of Education degree with an emphasis on middle grades from Emory University in 1991.
After retiring from DeKalb County Schools in 2005 I came to work at GACS, teaching 6th Grade Science during the 2005-2006 school year. I taught both math and science last year and will again this year.
Ralph and I worship with the Christians at Northlake Church of Christ and are actively involved in Mission PREDISAN, a medical mission in the Central American country of Honduras.
