Mrs. Shirley Jones
I grew up in a small town in eastern Pennsylvania, then moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee during high school. I actually attended first and second grades in a two-room school house! (1st through 4th grades in one classroom, 5th through 8th in the other. Doesn’t that make me sound old?!) I attended the University of Tennessee where I received a B.S. degree in elementary education specializing in early childhood education.
I’ve taught public school kindergarten in Texas and Tennessee, taught preschool, 3 and 4 year olds, and directed the preschool at the Sandy Springs Church of Christ. I love teaching young children and began teaching at GACS 16 years ago, 15 of those years teaching in K6.
My husband Phil is employed by Polycom. We worship at the North Atlanta Church of Christ. Phil and I have been married 34 years and have two children. Nathan lives in Manhattan where he works as a bond trader. Susan and her husband, Adam, live in Dallas, Texas where they are both in social work. Susan works in an intervention program. Our family photo was taken at their Roswell wedding more than a year ago on September 3. Both Nathan (’96) and Susan (’00) graduated from GACS. We continue to feel blessed by the education they received here, the friendships they developed, and the spiritual growth they experienced.

In my leisure time I enjoy walking, reading, doing counted cross-stitch, and wandering in country/primitive/antique stores. My husband and I enjoy traveling and being with our family.
I am continually thankful to be at GACS – blessed by its spiritual and educational environment, my co-workers, the parents, and especially our precious children. My goal is to create a loving, secure environment where it is safe for a child to make mistakes, a joy to learn new skills, a support when consequences occur, and a place to grow like Jesus.
